A regenerative community made up of tiny houses
In this episode, we visit Elias den Otter in LiberTerra – a community of ten sustainable, mobile homes that are partly or mostly off-grid. These homes produce or buy their own food and recycle their own waste streams, living in harmony with nature.
Build your own house...
LiberTerra is a co-created community where residents design and build their own houses, with a little help from architects and house manufacturers. The freedom to design your own home, combined with the diverse group of residents, has created a vibrant neighborhood full of life. All of the houses are built on screw foundations, so they can be easily moved if necessary. It took over two years to prepare the ten houses at LiberTerra. To maintain a cohesive look, the community members agreed to use wooden cladding, which they could select and finish themselves.
... and grow your own food
Elias showed us his neat vegetable garden, where he grows a variety of fruits and vegetables. The food he produces isn’t just for him – the rest of the community also benefits from his excess production. And Elias isn’t the only one growing food here – throughout the neighborhood, little gardens belonging to other community members can be found. Together, they aim to be as self-sufficient as possible. The knowledge they gain is shared in a community center, where members can learn from each other and exchange tips and ideas. This helps the community to continue growing and evolving, as they work towards their goal of living in harmony with nature.

- A relatively small garden can provide a lot of food
